“Zlatarski sir” is one of the most famous and best quality autochthonous milk products in Serbia. It belongs to a group of white soft cheeses, and according to the content of milk fat, it is classified as a group of full-fat cheeses. For centuries it is built in a traditional way in rural households below Zlatar, near Nova Varos. One of the main characteristics of “Zlatarski sir” is that it is produced from whole-milk cow milk.
The first “Zlatarska sirijada” was held on July 12, 1997 in Bulatovići, at the farm of the agricultural cooperative from Nova Varos.
Since 2013, the “Zlatarska sirijada” is held in Nova Varos, within the Zlatarfest event, which brings together a number of mini events.
